Patios & Walkways in Short Pump & Henrico, VA

Homes in Short Pump and across Henrico County tend to have generous yards, newer foundations and families who want to actually use their outdoor space. RVA Hardscapes is a family-run, fully insured crew with over 35 years of experience building residential patios, walkways, stoops, steps and retaining walls for homeowners in this part of the Richmond area. A paver or natural stone patio gives you a level, durable spot for dining, a fire pit or weekend cookouts, and we shape it to suit your home, your grading and your budget. A new walkway from the driveway to the front door improves curb appeal and safety, whether you prefer clean concrete pavers, warm brick or irregular bluestone. Many Henrico lots sit on slopes, so we also build retaining walls and terraced beds that hold soil, manage runoff and create usable flat ground. Front stoops and steps get the same attention to footing, rise and run so they stay solid and comfortable underfoot for years. We prepare the base properly with compacted stone, plan drainage before laying a single paver, and keep the site tidy from the first day to the last. Our crew walks the property with you, listens to what you want and gives you a clear written estimate with no pressure. Rowhouse stoops in the Fan and Museum District

Front stoops on older Richmond rowhouses take a lot of weather. Over the years, mortar joints wear out, bricks loosen, treads tip, and water gets in and makes it worse. Depending on the condition, a stoop may need repointing (replacing worn mortar), resetting loose brick or stone treads, or a rebuild from a sound base. When we rebuild, we work to match the existing brick and tread stone so the stoop still suits the house and its neighbors.

New steps for newer homes

From a front entry in Short Pump to a set of garden steps down a slope in Midlothian or Chester, new steps can be built in stone, brick or pavers to match your walkway or patio.

What makes steps safe and comfortable

• Even risers. Every step should be the same height so no one catches a toe.
• Deep enough treads for a full foot.
• A slight pitch on each tread so water runs off and doesn't freeze in a puddle.
• A solid footing so the steps don't settle or pull away from the house.
• Handrails where they're needed. We'll talk through whether your steps need one.
